The Family Child Care System is an Organized Placement and Support System for the Care of Children 2 Months to 12 Years.
The Cole-Harrington Family Child Care System contracts with Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) licensed family childcare educators in 30 towns located in Bristol, Norfolk and Plymouth counties. Family child care educators offer a safe, supervised, nurturing “home away from home” setting for young children 2 months to 12 years of age. Children have the opportunity to interact with a small group of children within a supportive and stimulating environment. Educators are required to follow the High Scope Curriculum that promotes children’s development and prepares them for school. Each child is encouraged to participate in age appropriate activities which enhance physical, cognitive, literacy, emotional, and social development.
FAMILY CHILD CARE STAFF
The program coordinator has been a member of the staff since 1998 and is dedicated to working collaboratively with Family Child Care (FCC) educators to help them meet the educational needs of children with and without special education needs. She leads a team of bachelor and master level early childhood educators with a variety of professional experiences working with infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and school age children.
Our clinical social workers provide case management and clinical support services to families referred by the Department of Child & Family Services (DCF). A child psychologist provides monthly consultation services.

FAMILY CHILD CARE HOMES
Family child care educators are licensed by the Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) to operate a child care program in their home. Educators may care for a maximum of 6 children with 3 children under 2 if one is 15 months and walking. Educators who have a large family childcare license may care for up to ten children as long as they have a full time assistant.
FAMILY CHILD CARE SCHEDULE
Family child care is open year round up to 10 hours per day, closing for up to fourteen holidays. Individual educators set their own opening and closing times based on their program’s needs. In addition to approved closed holidays, educators may close their programs for illness, personal or vacation days. Arrangements for substitute care through the system can usually be provided with adequate notice.
